Y2K: Converting a Helix collection to display the 4 digit year in the short date.

This tutorial assumes basic familiarity with ResEdit or another resource editor.

This document illustrates the steps necessary to enable 4 digit year display in the Helix Express short date format. Please make sure you are working on a backup copy of your database!

Note: changing the basic format of a date field can have unexpected effects in a Helix collection if you are converting dates to text (to use in a concatenated key, for example) Responsibility for ensuring data integrity rests with the developer.

Step One: Open the collection in ResEdit.

Drag and drop the collection onto ResEdit or select 'Open' from ResEdit's 'File' menu.

A collection opened in ResEdit.

Step Two: Open the 'itl0' resource.

Double click the one and only itl0 resource to open it...

Step Three: Activate four digit years in Short Date:

In the 'Short Date' section, check the box labelled 'Include Century' and close the editor.

The itl0 resource opened in ResEdit.

Step Four: Save and Quit ResEdit.

A standard 'save before closing' dialog.

Remember to run the collection through the utility programs after making these changes.
